Each year in May, Peace Officers Memorial Week is designated to honor law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. During the week, local, state and national ceremonies are held to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.
Many will gather to hear bagpipes playing "Amazing Grace," stand for twenty-one gun salutes and offer words of comfort to family and friends who grieve. Black bands will encircle badges and the poignant sound of a trumpet playing "Taps" will close the ceremony.
All of us should pause to recognize the service and sacrifice of these officers.
NC WANTED honors these fallen heroes.
