Police in western Pennsylvania have identified the skeletal remains of a woman found in a wooded area who was thought to have ties to North Carolina. They have refused to release her name per a request from her family.
Although police said evidence at the scene suggested the woman had spent time in North Carolina, they now believe she was a frequent traveler and was originally from the Las Vegas area.
NC WANTED originally brought you the story because the woman's description matched that of three women missing from our area: Donna McLeod of Cary, Allison Jackson Foy of Wilmington, and Michelle Leigh Brighton of Raleigh.
Police told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that there was no reason to suspect foul play. The cause of her death, however, remains unknown and forensic lab results could take months to be returned.
A resident found the remains in December near an industrial park in Somerset County, south of Pittsburgh.
Police believe the woman died in the summer.
They say it appears she was a white woman between 30 and 40 years old. She was wearing a black jacket, white shirt and black jeans.
