Two More Drive-By Shootings in Durham

DURHAM COUNTY:  Durham police are investigating whether two drive-by shootings that occurred within minutes Monday night might be related.

First, gunmen shot three males in the 600 block of Gray Avenue around 9 p.m., police said. The shooters fled in a burgundy and gray van, said officials.

The three victims, two 17-year-olds and one 19-year-old, suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in their legs, according to authorities. All three victims were alert and conscious when transported to local hospitals, said police.

A quarter-hour later, a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 1300 block of Fidelity Drive, said police. Witnesses told investigators that the suspects again fled in a burgundy and gray van.

Durham police officers stopped a van matching the description near the intersection of Liberty Street and Miami Boulevard a few minutes later.

Police took one person into custody. Several other people jumped out of the van and ran, said police.

Officers said they found two handguns inside the van.

Investigators were questioning the man they took into custody, but had filed no charges, said police.
